Where does it hurt?

Sciatica treatment

Pain or tingling down the leg? Gentle care that goes after the cause of sciatica, not just the symptoms.

If you’re living with sciatica, it’s time to see a chiropractor. Dr. Moe Abtahi uses a variety of gentle methods to address sciatica and the problems that come with it.

What is sciatica, and what causes it?

Sciatica is pain or tingling in one or both legs. It comes from pressure on the sciatic nerve, which runs from your lower back down through each leg. When the nerve is irritated, it can send pain signals or fail to pass messages along. A herniated disc or a tight, swollen muscle are common culprits.

Sciatica usually isn’t dangerous in itself, but it can limit how you move: walking, sports, falling asleep, getting through a work day. Whatever your situation, a chiropractor can help.

How chiropractic care helps

The goal is to resolve the problem, not just mask it. Pain medication can dull the pain without touching the cause, such as a misaligned spine, so the pain keeps coming back, and relying on medication carries its own risks.

Treatment often starts with gentle spinal manipulation, especially if a slip or fall has knocked the spine out of alignment. Soft tissue massage relaxes the muscles that may be pressing on the nerve, which can bring quick relief.
