Questions and answers
Is it safe? Does it hurt? What happens at the first visit? Straight answers to common questions.
The questions people ask most before their first visit.
Is chiropractic effective?
Chiropractic works on the postural imbalances and structural misalignments that build up in our bodies over time. Your nervous system needs to work well for your body to stay healthy, and adjustments restore healthy movement to the spine so the nerves around it can do their job.
Why should I see a chiropractor?
Chiropractic isn’t only for back and neck pain. Through adjustments, nutrition and overall wellness care, it can help keep your body working at its best, and patients come to us for a wide range of problems, from headaches to fibromyalgia.
What is a subluxation?
When a vertebra becomes misaligned or moves out of its normal position, chiropractors call it a subluxation. It can be caused by anything from a minor slip or bump to a car accident or other sudden trauma. A subluxated vertebra can put pressure on the nerves, blood vessels and tissues around it.
How does chiropractic care work?
Chiropractic looks at the human body as a whole, based on the idea that the body is self-sustaining and self-healing. The brain runs the body through the spinal cord and the network of nerves; when that system isn’t working at its peak, the whole body’s performance suffers.
Chiropractors don’t treat with drugs. Nutrition and supplements are often part of the bigger picture, and care aims at the source of the problem rather than just the symptoms.
What is a chiropractic adjustment? Is it safe?
An adjustment (sometimes called manipulation) is a small, precise movement of a vertebra in the spine, to realign joints that have moved out of place through everyday activity or an injury.
The chiropractor uses the hands or an instrument, with a quick movement that is usually comfortable. Some adjustments make a sound like cracking your knuckles (it’s gas being released from the joint), but Dr. Moe specializes in gentle techniques, and many of his adjustments involve no cracking at all.
What can I expect at my first visit?
Your first visit is really about getting to know each other: your history, how you feel now and what you want to get back to. There is a little paperwork, an examination and a computerized spinal screening. See your first visit, step by step.
What results can I expect?
Chiropractic aims to remove structural and postural imbalances so your body can heal itself. If you’ve ever been in a car accident, played a sport, fallen down or just bumped into something too hard, you may not be moving at your best. Lifestyle matters too: smoking, drinking too much or a poor diet can all work against you, so Dr. Moe looks at the whole picture.
